Emulsifying Wax SLS Free

Emulsifying Wax SLS Free

What is a SLS free emulsifying wax?

Emulsifying wax or E-wax is a self-emulsifying base, used for making creams and other oil in water emulsions. Emulsifying wax is very popular in industrially made cosmetics, as well as home made formulations because of its versatility.

Despite its name, emulsifying waxes do not perform anything like beeswax or other types of waxes and cannot be substituted for them.

Our SLS Free emulsifying wax comes in white to pale yellow flakes with a neutral, characteristic scent and is derived from plant-based alcohols and derivatives.

The INCI name is Cetearyl Alcohol and PEG 20 Stearate.

How does SLS free emulsifying wax work?

Emulsifying wax is used in lotions and creams as a thickener and emulsifier. Its main purpose is to make sure that the oil and water ingredients in the recipe bind well together and stay combined. Without an emulsifier, the oils in the product do not mix with water.

What can I use the SLS free emulsifying wax for?

This ingredient can be used in recipes for lotions, creams, ointments, shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments.

Easy to use and incredibly effective, this wax is a gentle alternative to other emulsifying waxes and gives a creamy feel to the skin. This is because it doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulphate, which can irritate some skin types.

Create your own creamy body butter with this easy recipe:

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. Measure out all of your ingredients

  2. Whisk the hydroxyethyl cellulose into the glycerin

  3. Combine the water and glycerin mixture and heat gently

  4. In a separate bowl, heat the oils and emulsifying wax together until melted

  5. Whisk together until fully combined

Recommended usage:

The usage amount can vary from recipe to recipe, so it is always best to test different recipes to see what works best for you.

However, we suggest that you start with 2-5% of the total weight, or 20-25% of the oil weight in your recipe.

Simply add the emulsifying wax to the oil phase of your recipe, and heat until it melts and then mix to combine.
